I decided today would be a good day to take Sophie and Hannah to McDonald's Play Place. I have been sick (so very sick) for the past week and just too worn out to play with them and feeling guilty about it. I couldn't take them to daycare because Hannah is still getting over her cold. And I couldn't take them to the mall play area with their runny noses and coughs for the same reason. I figured McDonalds was a safe bet. They would be able play on the slides and tubes and get a little lunch in at the same time.
I bought them both Happy Meals. I didn't realize at first that these were their very first Happy Meals. They loved them! They had a lot of fun pulling out the toys and food. It was better than Hanukkah. Sophie wanted to know what everything was and Hannah was captivated by the giant Ronald McDonald poster above us. She kept pointing to it and asking "What's that?" I told her "That's Ronald McDonald. He's a clown!"
Once they finished their lunch, Sophie asked if she could play. She ran straight for the tunnels. Hannah did too but immediately sat down at the entrance. She wanted me to sit there with her and hold her hand. Hannah has always been a little apprehensive of play tunnels. There is one at a community center near us and she has played in it only one time. That time she got scared halfway through and some of the older kids had to go in and help get her out.
Sophie on the other hand was having the BEST time. She slid down the slide saying "Weeeee!" and ran back to the entrance shouting "I do it again!" Hannah got tired of watching Sophie have all the fun and FINALLY ventured inside the tubes. She was having fun but at the same time had a very serious look on her face. Then the inevitable happened, she couldn't find Sophie and got scared. She started crying and calling for Sophie. It was very sad and you could tell other families felt bad. I was able to talk her down to a place where I could reach her and help her get out.
After that, she she just wanted to sit at the table and watched Sophie play. Then Hannah pointed to the Ronald McDonald poster and said "I don't like her!" I figured that was a sign it was time to go. Of course Sophie didn't want to leave and hid in the tunnels. Which meant I had to climb inside and get her. Stinker. But overall they both had a good time.
"A toy Mommy!"

French fries. It was all Sophie could talk about.

A moment of pure joy.

The play place. I can see how Ronald McDonald poster could be a little overwhelming for a two year old.
