Monsters and aPods

One night Hannah couldn't sleep. I had to keep going into her room to soothe her. Apparently Sophie told her there were monsters in the room. And yes, she did this on purpose just to scare her. But it backfired because then Sophie could sleep because she was thinking about monsters. Sigh.

Today when I was driving to the library, Hannah pointed to my iPod and said "Mommy, is that your A-Pod?" "Yes, that is my iPod." She said "Where is your A-Phone?" Hee hee.

Sophie and Ballet-A Love Hate Relationship

Ballet lessons have been very interesting to say the least.

First, we have the worst ballet teacher on the planet. She was so bad that all the moms in the waiting area spent the entire half hour of "ballet" class making jokes about how awful she is. Class was basically the kids running back and forth across the dance studio. We didn't realize how bad the class was until a new teacher took over, telling us that Miss Cath assured her that the girls were caught up on their routine. Routine?

Second, the first two classes consisted of Sophie and Hannah wrestling with each other. Literally. Wrestling Each Other.

By the third week, we settled into a routine. Hannah would join the class and have a great time. Sophie? Well, Sophie would lay on the floor outside the dance room and eat pretzels.
Week 3
Week 4
And week 5

Oh, and one week the dance studio was closed "because of bees". Another week class was cancelled because of a power outage.

Week 6 (and the last day of class)
It was starting out to be like every other class. Sophie sitting in the waiting room, eating pretzels. But...

(gasp) Could she be.....
DANCING?!

Sleep Training Clocks are Scary

Sophie and Hannah have been waking up earlier and earlier. Craig and I bought a sleep training clock hoping to keep them in their room until at least 6:45. Depending on the time of day, the "awake" bunny or the "sleep" bunny lights up. When they get up before the "awake" bunny lights up, we tell them to go back to their room until the bunny wakes up! We're so mean. It's been three days and each day has been a little better until...
It was one of those times when we told Hannah that she had to go back to her room until the bunny wakes up. Sophie decided to spend that time playing with the buttons. She accidentally turned on the alarm so a few minutes later, the bunny woke up along with the alarm. The sound startled Hannah and she ran screaming to our room. I don't think I have ever seen her move so fast! The funny thing is the alarm is just basically a rooster crowing quietly and some other farm animals making noise. It's the most innocent sounding alarm clock in the world. So now the clock is hanging on the wall so they can't press any buttons and I'm hoping they're not scarred for life.

Crafty Tuesday

Finger paint wall decals.

I've been wanting to make these finger paint wall decals ever since I saw them on this blog. It looks complicated but it's actually very easy. I didn't have any sandpaper so I rubbed a nail file against the contact paper to help make the paint stick. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped. I also used tempura paint instead of acrylic paint which didn't look as nice. Tempura tends to chip and crack but acrylic is flexible and more durable. But then I'm not quite ready to give up washable tempura for the more permanent acrylic.

I don't think this qualifies as a craft but Sophie and Hannah stayed home today since they were just getting over colds. They were getting a little stir crazy and these hats (crowns?) kept things interesting for a while.
