Random Pictures and Events

Good mom or bad mom...you be the judge. Hannah hasn't been eating well the past few days so in an effort to get more calories into her, I decided to dip a spoon in a jar of Nutella and let her have it. She doesn't look like she really minds.

Some of us don't need to be coaxed into eating!

And this is for anyone saw the pictures of the snow from last week and thought "I could NEVER live in Colorado". It was 70 degrees and sunny the past two days. I wore a tank top to the park this afternoon

In other news: I had my first biting experience. Sophie and Hannah were fighting over one of their toys and I was trying to get them to share or at least play with equal but different toys. I thought everything was fine until I heard them both crying. Sophie was really crying. Not the typical "I'm upset because I can't get what I want" crying. I picked her up to console her and saw...bite marks on her arm! Hannah immediately went into time out. Sophie still had bite marks on her arm when I put her to bed three hours later. Why can't they just be nice to each other?

Well, that was interesting.

After a lot of wait and stress and worry, we finally got our H1N1 vaccines. I had been calling the pediatrician every week to see if they received the vaccine and every week they say to call the next week. When I called this morning the nurse said that they don't plan to get vaccine until December. December?!

I decided enough was enough and started googling everything I could find about the vaccine and where I could get it. I didn't find anything helpful on ImmunizeColorado.com which is the website the nurse suggested. Eventually I found a (very small) article about a local grocery store giving the vaccine at some locations and one of them happened to be 10 minutes away! The clinic opened at 10am and it was already 9am. I didn't have much hope of getting there in time since I had heard of people waiting in line for hours to get their shots and some people being turned away. I called the store on the way just to make sure that the article was correct and they were really giving out the vaccine. The nurse who answered the phone said that they were giving out the vaccine only to those in the high risk category. I told her I had 17 month old twins. She said they were giving it to children 4 years and older. I said "Are you sure you don't mean 4 years and younger?" She said they could only give the vaccine to children 4 years and older. Company policy. She was kind of bitchy about it too.

I was so frustrated I wanted to cry. I was almost at the store and had to turn around, go home and start all over. On a whim I decided to call the other grocery store in the area. I asked them whether they were giving out the vaccine and would Sophie and Hannah qualify. They said they were giving the vaccine out to children 6 months and older so yes they would qualify. At that point it was almost 10am and I just knew there would be a line out the door by the time I arrived. I pulled into the parking lot, found the clinic and there were 15 people in line. I was so relieved.

We ended up waiting an hour (not bad). The clinic was basically one nurse and a room the size of a closet. It was very awkward because there was barely enough room for the stroller and no table for the girls to sit or lay on while they got the shot. I held Sophie in my lap and when the nurse gave her the shot Sophie started kicking so hard that the nurse lost her grip on the needle while it was in Sophie's leg! We had to physically restrain her in order for the nurse to give her the vaccine. So Sophie is crying and Hannah is crying because Sophie is crying. We decided to give Hannah the shot in the stroller since she was strapped in and it would be easier to hold her hands. We completely underestimated Hannah. She moved so fast that the needle came out of her leg and we had to do it again. The nurse felt terrible. I felt terrible. Sophie and Hannah were screaming. I can only imagine what it sounded like to the people waiting in line outside. It was all I could do to get them dressed and out the door. As I walked out I turned to the crowd and said "Okay, who's ready for their shot?!" And the nurse leaned out the door and said "Alright, I'm ready for the next one and I don't want any crying this time!" At least we could make a joke out of it. Fortunately both girls were fine by the time we got to the car. And they took an extra long nap later that afternoon.

There's nothing like a hot bath after a hard day.

A little Daddy time.

Sophie spending some time with Daddy. I love how she can't just sit next to him on the floor...she has to sit in a tupperware bowl next to him on the floor.

Happy Halloween!

Craig and I took the girls to Boo at the Zoo. We had a good time but Sophie and Hannah were a little too young to take part in the events and activities. But they had a great time looking at all the kids dressed up in their costumes.

And a picture of the pumpkins we carved last night. When I say "we" I mean me. I carved the pumpkins last night after the girls went to bed (while Craig watched ESPN).

Please notice that the baby pumpkins are twins but not identical twins! ;)
Boo at the Zoo
They handed out candy and of course Craig was first in line! (Sorry little boy in the dino suit...you'll just have to wait for my husband to go through first.)
We loved the carousel.
Sophie kicking back during "lunch".
Cuteness.
Showing off their Halloween shirts. Please excuse the drool...someone is teething. At least I hope she's teething. She's had the same six teeth since forever. While Sophie has an entire mouthful of teeth.
All dressed up and waiting for trick or treaters.
Any minute now.
Trying to break into the candy bowl!

Snow Days Part II

We got a ton of snow yesterday and today. I've now been house bound for four days! First with Sophie being sick and now with the snow. The good news is Sophie is starting to feel better. Her temperature was hovering between 101 and 103 but it wasn't as bad today. She's been acting like her old self...you know, pulling Hannah's hair and stealing her toys;)
Hanging out with Daddy before he had to go out to shovel the driveway.
They loved watching the neighbors shovel snow.
Poor Craig had to shovel all that snow. Not just off the sidewalk and driveway but also the back deck. Hannah went from window to window to watch him. Sophie however was a different story. For some reason she gets really upset when she sees Craig wearing a hat. She starts crying. Craig will take his hat off and say "Hey, it's just Daddy." But it doesn't matter. She really gets upset.

Mwah!

A kiss from Hannah to you!
Hannah is big on kissing. She will always give us a kiss if we ask for one and even when we don't. She kisses her stuffed animals (and then hands them to us to kiss). She kisses Sophie. She kisses the babies and animals in her books. I saw her kiss her playhouse once (okaaay). Yesterday I was taking a picture of her by the window and she leaned in to kiss the camera.
Mwah!
Sophie is not so big on the kissing, she's more of a hugger. She rarely gives us a kiss even if we ask but will kiss Hannah all the time (which I think is really, really sweet).

Snow Days and Sick Days

The girls and I have been stuck inside the past two days because Sophie has been sick. And a snow storm just hit Colorado so we aren't going anywhere any time soon. I am running out of activities! They are tired of their books. When I offer to read to them they just swat the book out of my hand (nice!) And Yo Gabba Gabba is starting to lose its appeal. So what's a girl to do?
Build a blanket fort!
Can you tell they like it?!

Blanket forts are good for some downtime too. See books aren't so boring after all.
