Both girls were fine in the waiting room. There were dinosaurs and toy trucks to distract them. Everything was okay until I told Hannah that she would be going back to see the dentist by herself (office policy). Immediately the whole mood in the waiting room changed. Hannah stopped playing with the toys and refused to do anything more than stick out her lower lip in a sad little pout.
Fortunately (for everyone involved) the receptionist let Craig and I go back with them.
When we asked the girls who would like to go first, Sophie shouted "Hannah!" and Hannah shouted "Sophie!" We decided that Sophie should go first because she usually does better in these types of situations. And we thought it might help Hannah to see what exactly was going to happen. Sophie was a little nervous and cried at first but then settled down as the hygienist counted her teeth. The only other time she got upset was when it was time to polish her teeth. The hygienist let Sophie touch the polishing tool and she was fine but cried when they used it on her teeth. Overall she was very brave. When she was done, she leaned over to Hannah and rubbed her head as if to say "Don't worry, it's not so bad." It was SO sweet. She is such a big sister.
Hannah on the other hand was upset the entire time. Let's just say the dentist didn't have any problem counting Hannah's teeth since she was crying and screaming (thus her mouth was open) the ENTIRE time. She did manage to pull herself together to when it was time to pick out a little toy.
When all was said and done, the dentist said their teeth looked great. They good to pick out new toothbrushes and a little toy. Plus a goodie bag of stickers and floss. Not bad.
