Pictures of the Week

I call this one "How many Goldbergs does it take to change a diaper?" Teaching Aunt Leigh how to change a diaper. Sandy is demonstrating, Craig is supervising and I'm documenting.
"Sophie gets a mani". This one cracks me up. I always wait until after I feed them to file their nails because they're so sleepy they don't mind. Sophie leaning back with her arm behind her head looks like she's
getting a spa treatment.

This one is my favorite

First Video

This is video of the babies right after they were born:

Craig's parents took this video. I think I was still in the recovery room at this point.

Mommy Moments

I had my first embarrassing mommy moment at the dentist today:

Craig and I fed the babies right before I left for my appointment. Craig fed Hannah while I gave Sophie her bottle. Well, after three weeks of trying to get Sophie to breastfeed without any luck, she suddenly decides to show an interest in my breasts. I see her eyes zero in on them right before she lurches forward and plops her drooling, milk covered mouth right onto them. I'm running late so I quickly clean her off, finish feeding her, and rush out the door. It wasn't until I went to the bathroom at the dentist's office that I noticed a big milk stain right in the center of my boob courtesy of Sophie. Thanks Sophie!

After two hours at the dentist office I came home to this:

And then it was my turn:

Baby Talk

The girls have been so cute lately. Both are starting to "talk". They sound like little birds. They make little cooing and warbling noises when they're happy or when they're eating. And they are both starting to give us little smiles. We haven't been able to capture the smiles on camera (not for lack of trying.)

Baby Lessons

Lesson #1
When your doula tells you (at 4am) that your babies don't need to be fed until 9am...doesn't mean they will actually sleep until 9am.
Sleeping beauties. Sophie-L, Hannah-R
Lesson #2
Trips to the store will become mini vacations. Today we needed to pick up a few things at Babies R Us and Craig was gracious enough to let me go. I got in the car, rolled down the windows and turned up the radio. It was like a big party. That is until I called Craig as I was heading home and heard the desperation in his voice when he said "Get here when you can."

And Lesson #3
There is such a thing as projectile poop.

Splish Splash

Some girls I know got their first bath:

Sophie Jade.

Don't let the picture fool you...she hated it. She cried the entire time. It was awful. I don't know who felt worse by the time we were done, us or Sophie. I told Craig I didn't think I could handle another bath and yet there was still one more to go and this messy girl really needed it:

Hannah Elise

Hannah didn't mind it as much but we (sort of) knew what we were doing by then.

Baby Weight(s)

We took Sophie and Hannah to the doctor yesterday for their two week follow up. I can't believe my girls are two weeks old! The good news is both girls gaining weight. Sophie is 5lbs, 7oz up from her birth weight of 5lbs, 5oz. And Hannah is 5lbs, 9oz which is very close to her birth weight of 5lbs, 10oz. The doctor was very happy with those weights. Unfortunately we have to go back next week for a follow up.

And because Hannah was breech the doctor also wants us to take Hannah in for an ultrasound on her legs to make sure she doesn't have any problems with her hips. The doctor assured us that this is standard for breech babies and just a precaution.

Holding Hannah Mom's weight by the way is 126 lbs down from 161lbs. I weighed myself at the pediatrician's office.

These pictures give you an idea of how small they really are despite their good birth weights. The onesies are newborn sizes. And despite how it looks, those are not knee high socks.

Hannah Elise: AKA Baby B, Hannah Banana, Hannah Bear, Princess
Because she slept most of the time, Hannah had us fooled into thinking she was low maintenance. Well she is...until you do something she doesn't like (such as change her diaper or take her to the doctor's office). Then her face turns bright red and she starts crying. She's become quite our "little miss fussy butt" and we love her.

Sophie Jade: AKA Baby A, Sophie Bear, Bunny, Monkey, Drama Queen, Chicken Legs McGraw

We used to think Sophie was going to be our high maintenance girl because she has such a flair for the drama. Everything is a big production with her. When you wake her up she has to stretch for a good 5 minutes: arching her back, stretching her legs and arms, rubbing her face. You know, just to let you know you woke her up. But she doesn't cry that much and loves to just lay on your chest and snuggle.

Daddy dressed the girls this morning:

I woke up this morning to find Craig with his camera phone out taking a picture of the girls. When I looked into the crib this is what I saw. Hmmm, I wonder how long until these onesies just happen to "disappear ".

Holding Hands

Home Sweet Home

Welcome Home sign from Hannah and Sophie (and Mom Mom)

It's so good to be back home. Saturday started off as a great day. I got to celebrate my birthday with my two beautiful baby girls. And ended with a call to 911 and a trip to the hospital from a postpartum hemorage. Three days and two operations later and I'm finally home with my girls. I missed them so much!
