Bubbies and Boogies

Conversation I had in the car with Sophie:

Sophie: Mommy, why are you picking your nose?
Me: What?!
Sophie: Why are you picking your nose?
Me: I'm not picking my nose. (I wasn't.)
Sophie: Because you have a boogie? (pause) Because you have a boogie Mommy???!
Me: I'm not picking my nose Sophie!

Good grief.

And earlier today Hannah lifted up her shirt and said "Look at my 'bubbies' Mommy!"

Life with toddlers!

Trip to the Carousel (AKA The Zoo)

We took a trip to the zoo today. Sophie and Hannah had been fighting a little cold but they woke up this morning without any coughing or runny noses. I thought some fresh air would do them good.

"Elephants!"
(pause)
"Carousel Mommy?"
They LOVED this little lizard statue. All the animals were out today. The cheetah paced back and forth in front of us, the kangaroos hopped around their pen, the hippo put on a show with his yawning...barely a glance from Sophie and Hannah. But the lizard statue, they played with that for a good 20 minutes. Then asked for the carousel.
African drum break.
Cotton Candy! We read about cotton candy in Maisy Goes To The Fair. I thought it would be fun to let them try it. And Mommy wanted some cotton candy. They were so excited!
Sophie took one taste and declared "I don't LIKE it." But she did enjoy squishing it in her fingers. And kept asking for more for that very purpose. Hannah loved it of course!
"I push Mommy!"
Carousel. Why did you make us wait so long!? (Mommy got lost in the Primate Panorama. Seriously. I couldn't find my way out.)

A nap was in order when we got home. I was really tired and not feeling well. Sophie went right to bed. Hannah wouldn't sleep. She told me in this sad, little voice "It's hard to go to sleep." I told her she could sleep in my bed with me. She started to drift off and so I went right to sleep. I woke up a short time later to the sound of hangers being thrown about. I looked up and Hannah had pulled ALL my shirts off the hangers in my closet. If I didn't know any better, I would swear that she pretended to fall asleep so I would fall asleep so she could get up and rummage through my closet. And I definitely have a cold:(

Last night the girls were all wound up and didn't want to go to bed. So Craig and I climbed into their beds and pretended that we were going to sleep. Hannah immediately wanted her bed back. Sophie however was thrilled. She immediately climbed in to bed and snuggled up to Craig. She couldn't believe her luck. Snuggling with Daddy!

She asks about Craig all the time. She will ask when he's coming home and I will say "When does Daddy come home?" She'll say "When it's dark." Or she will ask how long until it's dark. She really loves her Daddy.

Hannah really loves her...dishtowel. Mom Mom gave her a dishtowel ages ago. She plays with it for a while and then forgets about it when it cycles through the wash. I keep trying to give it back to Mom Mom but every time Hannah sees it, she wants it. Last week the girls were playing with their dolls and I asked them if they wanted "blankets" (dishtowels). Hannah grabbed both and wouldn't give any to Sophie. I went into the kitchen and grabbed Mom Mom's dishtowel to offer to Sophie. Hannah saw it, ran over to Sophie shouting "Here you go!!!" And flung the towels at her. Then she ran back to me and grabbed Mom Mom's dishtowel from my hands. Oy vey. Now she has to have it with her at all times. In fact, it's currently wrapped around Lamb and sitting in a cubical at daycare.

She is also very attached to me. She is all about Mommy. She always wants to be in the same room as me. She loves the special time we have together when she wakes up from her nap before Sophie. Mommy has to tuck her in, brush her teeth, help her into her carseat...etc. I'm not complaining.
